Configure Chart and Data Downloads
Setting up your downloads in ForeFlight is easier than ever with new separate menus for Chart/Data selections and Region selections.
Military Mission Planning Charts
ForeFlight MFB (the version of ForeFlight built for US government, military, and DOD aviation) now allows authorized and authenticated customers to download and display the worldwide library of US Department of Defense military mission planning charts, including Joint Operations Graphics (JOG), Tactical Pilot Charts (TPC), Operational Navigation Charts (ONC), and Range charts.
A new interactive Graphical Chart Manager makes it fast and easy to select and download only the desired charts from the thousands available in the library.
The charts use the newest format standard in military digital chart technology, developed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, called Enhanced Compression Raster Graphics (ECRG), and when combined with ForeFlight’s compression process technology, results in faster over-the-air (wireless) downloads, less storage space, higher resolution, and quicker load times.
Pack Charts & Weather on Flights
To further streamline your planning workflow on Flights, you’ll find a quick access button to Pack directly below the Flight Log. Just like the ‘suitcase’ button on the Maps view, tap ‘Pack and it will analyze your route and package up all of the charts, data, NOTAM, and weather information (including Icing and Turbulence for Pro Plus and Performance Plus customers) you’ll need to access offline during your flight.
iPhone & iPad Design Improvements
We’ve been working hard on redesigning the app’s interface on the iPhone to create a more consistent and familiar experience between it and the iPad, and this new interface is now available for all ForeFlight customers.
The biggest thing you’ll notice about the new interface is the tab bar at the bottom of the screen, which replaces the “Menu” button as the primary means of navigating around the app. The tab bar makes it much easier to move between different views in the app, and provides a consistent navigation paradigm between the iPhone and iPad.
The iPad has some notable changes as well. Favorite and Recent buttons throughout the app are consolidated under a single button and a new “slim” tab bar design increases usable screen space. Finally, we redesigned the More view to group the tabs on the left into more logical sections. We moved frequently used features like Logbook and Checklist to the top and administration functions like Downloads, Account, and Settings to the bottom.
Mountain Passes & More in High Resolution Basemap
ForeFlight’s High Resolution Basemap includes Jeppesen-sourced terrain and cultural elements such as mountain passes, highway labels, and more for improved inflight reference.
The Basemap is what you see with no other charts or maps other than the Aeronautical Map enabled, and depicts terrain, roads, urban lighting, and more. Download the High Resolution Basemap for any region in More - Downloads.

Traffic & Glance Mode in Synthetic Vision
ForeFlight’s Synthetic Vision feature now provides even more situational awareness with integrated ADS-B traffic depictions and a 360-degree interactive Glance Mode. Synthetic Vision is available with the Pro Plus subscription plan and above, and as an add-on to Business plans.
To use Synthetic Vision, make sure you select and download high-resolution terrain for whichever regions you plan to fly in, using the settings menus at the top of More - Downloads. Synthetic Vision can double as a backup attitude display when you connect to an AHRS-capable receiver, but that isn’t required to use Synthetic Vision or either of the new features in this video.
